Annual Programs!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Annual recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is performed on his day of recognition. The day starts out with a 9 mile torch run that begins at Patriot Park, Portsmouth, RI and ends at Thompson Middle School, Newport, RI where a simultaneous day program is held. The runners are recognized by the day time program attendees once they arrive. Then a luncheon a held at Green Valley Country Club. A Scholarship recipient is honored during the luncheon. State and local dignitaries are in attendance. The day ends with a program conducted at the Martin Luther King Center, Newport, RI

Golf Tournament

Our annual Golf Tournament fundraiser is typically held in June at Green Valley Country Club. It is a 4-man scramble tournament. Teams are assigned specific tee times. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Donations by way of raffle prizes, hole sponsorship, and financial donors are necessary.

The Black Regiment Monument Commemoration Ceremony

A monument that commemorate the First RI Black Regiment located in Portsmouth, RI in honor of Black soldiers who died for American revolution and is also the site of Battle of Bloody Run Brook. The Black Regiment took its place in American history in August 1778 as the first organized group of Blacks to fight as a unit in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The present generation and succeeding generations must be aware of the men who contributed to this significant event in American history.
